About the retrospective thing, I actually planned on doing one but interest in it kinda faded, so I switched to a review of Welcome to the NHK (which might be old enough for a retrospective, I'm not sure) which I had already written and sent in. That said, I might rewrite it, I'm not too confident in the original review.

We'll change it to "classic review" then :p I'll look forward to your review as I haven't seen NHK yet, just send it to me when you've done the revisions (preferably before November 18).

The cosplay event at rAge was a huge success this year. The turnout was amazing! It would be cool if someone could write about what happened there? I don't have the time, but you could probably recruit someone from the Cosplay South Africa facebook group who was there - http://www.facebook.com/groups/3415749605/ There's also a lot of photos of the event in the group's albums, if you need hi-res ones you could ask the people who uploaded them.

Great idea, thanks for suggesting this! We had someone covering cosplay for the first issue so I'll see if she's still available, otherwise I'll contact the group towards the end of the week.

Sh!t Gooney where did you come from. Didn't even know you were here. :D

And Im still here but its more than a bit hairy on my side, have even had to take time off from blogging.
So I may not be able to contribute much content any time soon.
But Im willing to help with anything else like contacting people / marketing / and generally making people aware of the mag.
I still have access to the twitter acc too.

Sorry to hear you don't have much time, I think you're a great asset to the mag - guess it can't be helped though, with any luck things will calm down and you'll be able to rejoin fully sometime further on down the line ^^ Contacting/marketing is something we really need to focus on right now so we can get enough people to restart, so any time you can spend on that would be great. Not sure how many people check the Twitter page, but it couldn't help to drop a post there - can you let everyone know that we're recruiting for the second issue?

As for progress... I'm fairly confident with InDesign now and spent most of the day reading up on good typography practices, and earlier I was going through various magazines for inspiration to find the best way we can lay things out - I'll post a teaser for everyone here to review sometime tomorrow.

I was just eyeing your November date and that would cutting it too close for me. End of November/December and I should have more time on my hands though.

I'll get on the twitter thing soonish.

Will also send you a PM regarding some things I think need to be addressed/setup.

Unofficial deadline - I thought it would be a safe date if we were aiming for a November release, but it's dependent entirely on how much support we get... I don't want people to feel pressured into submitting content, so maybe under the circumstances we should aim for a mid-December release with an end-November deadline instead.

Thanks for tending to the Twitter feed jG, I'll look forward to your PM!

EDIT: Sorry if anyone's waiting on that teaser, I hit my bandwidth cap so I figured it would be better to work on it and upload it on the 1st.

Contacted several people who had shown interest in the second issue but have fallen off the grid, hopefully we'll increase our numbers over the coming days. The magazine isn't happening without support, so if you know of anyone who has some time spare and would be an asset please send them our way!

Struggling with faulty RAM so apologies for not chasing this up more diligently over the last week, I've ordered parts for an upgrade so I'll be back 100% by around Wednesday (long overdue, it'll be nice being able to watch 720/1080p again without the subtitles dropping out of sync...)

Unfortunately I'm very busy at the moment. My schedule only clears up on the 25th of November, so if submissions are still open I can write up something quickly on the Gantz live action then. Other than that I can post a thread on mybroadband where some anime people may know of the mag.

Mmm, I was going to suggest a page with some j-idol but I don't know how that is going to fly with everyone

Sorry for the late update everyone. As well as having major issues with both my internet and PC lately, someone in my family was murdered last week so things have been hectic - instead of upgrading my PC I decided to just replace the whole thing as I can't isolate the cause of the problem/s, and as my current setup is a very old Celeron 2.3GHz w/ 512MB RAM I figured it's really time I just put it to rest (if you want a laugh, click here to see one of the many errors I've been getting). Good news is that I've upgraded to 8ta's 10GB package so I have a lot more freedom and can keep up with recent shows again, and I should be in a position to get a new PC towards the end of next week - can you guys suggest a good desktop in the R15k price range and a reliable place to buy one in the Midrand/Centurion area?

As for development on the mag itself, a majority of the people I've contacted have been interested but unfortunately haven't been able to commit entirely. I've far from given up though, and we do have a few great people who have signed on but could still use all the assistance we can get, so if you'll be free over the December period let me know you're interested. It's a bit hard to commit to a deadline date under the circumstances, but the way I see it is that we have two options - we can either set a cutoff date of December 16th for article submissions and launch December 23rd, or have the cutoff set to the 23rd and release the issue in the first week of January. This depends largely on what everyone's able to do, so please give your input and let me know what better suits everyone so we can settle on something soon.

In other news, I've purchased the www.anime-ima.com domain as I think it's crucial that we have a more formal method of distribution and an easy URL to promote ourselves with - the new site would also help with organization as I can implement a system where magazine staff can better collaborate with each other privately so we all know what we're doing and can work better together. I haven't had time to set up anything yet so excuse the placeholder page, I'll probably forward traffic to the DN forum in a couple of days until we can get something up.

Mmm, I was going to suggest a page with some j-idol but I don't know how that is going to fly with everyone

This is something I haven't thought of at all but sounds like it could be interesting - what do you have in mind? :p

I'd say we should shoot for release on the 23rd, but I have a feeling a lot of people won't be able to make it, I'm a bit of a hypocrite though, I'll have my revised review by this friday at the latest.

Outrack, wow, I'm sorry to hear about your loss, my condolences. Hope everything turns out well for you and all others involved.

@Outrack

Sorry for sending this late, I've been in the middle of my final exams and haven't had much free time recently. After plenty of procrastinationon on my end, here's my review, I ended up rewriting it from scratch instead of just editing my old one, and I'm happy with how it turned out, but if there's anything you find wrong with it, let me know and I'll fix it up.

Many thanks for restarting this magazine
